Level Seven Percussion
Explorer Scout Post 2107

January 31, 2007

WOW! The contest season is already upon us! This week begins the second season for Level Seven Percussion and begins us on an adventure that with lots of hard work will let us succeed and let the world know that we came to play with the 'big kids'.

Saturday afternoon will kick off the contest season and will culminate at World Championships in April. Our goal is to PROGRESS each week, make every little detail just a little better each time we practice it or perform it. We may start off the season a little slow and there's plenty of things we have yet to add, and there WILL be bumps along the way, but as a group if we decide that we want to succeed together, then we will get through the rough times and continue our climb to the top. There's nowhere to go but UP.

THIS WEEKEND'S CONTEST and REHEARSAL SCHEDULE:

There has been a change in practice schedule after conferring with the staff, we will practice after the Saturday contest, then on Sunday, once the contest is over, the rest of the day is free. This will make for a long Saturday again, but this way it gives us almost a whole day to rest up. It's a very busy start, and the Indianapolis weekend is busy as well, as we have to implement the balance of the drill for Discontent, and then ALL of the drill for Deep (two minutes - with a lot of body work as well).

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2007 - CENTRAL CROSSING (MEPA 1)

9:00 am - Music Ensemble at Watterson Band Room (please DO NOT be late, plus eat a good breakfast!)
11:00 am - end ensemble, load trailer. Make sure that you have drill practice clothes AND your temporary uniform (more on that below)
12:00 noon - depart Watterson for Central Crossing High School
12:30 pm - arrive at Central Crossing HS. Unwind for a few minutes, let us get checked in. Time permitting, you may go into the gym to watch some Scholastic lines. Pit members, I would suggest you do this to acquaint yourselves to where the electric supply is so that we can hook up the synthesizers. The is a VERY important detail...grab a brief snack too.
1:30 - 1:45 pm - get into uniform in our dressing area, unload equipment for move to warm-up.
2:22 pm - Warm-up
2:45 pm - At the Ready Line
2:55 pm - LEVEL SEVEN PERCUSSION performance
3:22 pm - Awards Retreat (Captains to the floor: Heather, Ben, Andy, and John)
3:45 pm - load trailer
4:15 pm - depart Central Crossing for Madison Plains MS (the quicker we can do this allows for a quick stop for food)
4:45 pm - arrive Madison Plains, unload trailer, roll out tarp already at Plains (not the show tarp)
5:00 - 9:00 pm - Drill rehearsal (we will finish cleaning Discontent and get as far as possible into Deep as we can).
GO HOME!!! Get a GOOD night of rest, Sunday is an early call.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2007 - CENTRAL CROSSING (MEPA 2)

SCHOTTENSTEIN CENTER UPDATE:

Tuesday, February 6th vs. Michigan
Working this event are: Will Hurley, John Mangini, Jerel Stewart, Mark Maslowski, Jay Eichenlaub, Sheryl Mickley, Nick Mickley. It's been a long time since we signed everyone up for this event, so if you can't work the event now, let me know ASAP so I can get a replacement.

Saturday, February 10 vs. Purdue
Working this event is: Michele Brown
NOTE: There is an Ice Hockey game after the basketball game (yes, hockey after basketball!), and they need three people to work the same stand. Anyone not involved (parents, family, friends) with the WGI Indianapolis trip who wants to earn credit, just let me know!

Justin Timberlake - February 19
I originally had Holly and Kristin Good, plus Michele Brown on the list, but it's been so long since sign-up, let me know if you want to change it. We need 3-4 people 19 or over (it is an alcohol event).

Trace Adkins - March 8
Would like to see if there's enough interest to request this date. Need 3-4 people19 or over.

Bob Seger - March 10
Same as Trace Adkins...need to see if we can get 3-4.

OHSAA Tournaments in March:
We would like to staff a concession stand at one, two, or all three of these events, if possible:

  • OHSAA Wrestling Championships
  • OHSAA Girls Basketball State Championships
  • OHSAA Boys Basketball State Championships

These events are on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of the respective weeks. They last all day, but we can shift 4 people in to replace 4 others...I would like to see if there is an interest among members and parents to help out. The Thursday and Friday events pay out higher due to the difficulty of getting people to work. Any questions, please ask.

MEDICAL & CONSENT FORMS REMINDER:

Again, if you haven't given me the Medical Form and the Consent Form, I need to get it turned in immediately!!! Please finish these before this weekend!!!

TEMPORARY UNIFORMS:

Reminder for the next two weekends (Central Crossing and Indianapolis) that you will be wearing the temporary uniform of khaki pants (non-cargoes), a black long-sleeve t-shirt with no logos, and black Drillmasters with black socks. Do your best to get as close to these as possible, and if you have to purchase any of those items, don't spend much money on them, please. You're only wearing them for two weekends.

MEASUREMENTS:

A quick shout out to Pat Sauer! She came down to Madison Plains on her own time last weekend to help measure everyone in the ensemble for their uniforms. It was much appreciated, as I would never have been able to do that myself. Although I made one dumb (and critical) error. I had Pat take measurements, but did not take into account the drum harnesses underneath the uniform tops for the snares and tenors....Pat, I may need that tape measure! Thanks again for your help, Pat!

SPONSORSHIPS:

As always, continue your efforts at gaining sponsorships to help offset your dues to be a member of Level Seven Percussion. These are great ways to help earn credit, and get others to learn about the indoor percussion activity. All sponsor donations in your name are tax-deductible to the donor, and will be accepted all season. Let me know if you need the form. Brian Harris just landed another $25 sponsor donation today, which is his third of the season. These are not difficult to get from family, friends, neighbors, or corporations. You'd be surprised to find out how easy they are to get.

OK, here we go!!! Good luck Level Seven at Central Crossing!
