Indianapolis WGI Regional Information

This weekend is the second weekend of our 2007 Tour and the first of three WGI contests. This will be probably the busiest weekend of the season due to the travel and distance, and strangely the season may seem easier after this point (decent weather along the way wouldn't hurt us, either). We need to get the trailer packed this Friday evening and will need to practice to work out some minor drill moves, as well as do a new pit arrangement across the front of the tarp to spread out the sound a little better, as well as give us an easier way to get on and off the floor quicker. We took too long last weekend at Central Crossing, the second show we were 26 seconds short of going over the time limit for our division, so we need to get this worked out. Saturday will be another long day and it has a very early start, so we need you rested and in good health.

I understand this is late notice on practice, and I apologize for that. If you are working or involved in something else, please let me know that you won't be able to make it.

WEEKEND COST:
The cost for each member this weekend will be $50.00. This cost includes the hotel room, fuel expenses for the drivers, and rental of the practice facility. We are at a hotel with a discounted rate for groups performing at the WGI Regional this weekend. Not a bad cost - last year we stayed two nights in Indianapolis for $108 per member, it did NOT include fuel costs and no practice facility - we practiced with the tarp unfolded in the parking lot at the high school. What a mess.

Cost-wise, it's a really good deal.

This weekend's schedule:

FRIDAY

Practice at Willis Middle School in Delaware (it's closer than Madison Plains!)
7:00 pm to 10:00 pm in the gym
Rework the pit setup and make adjustments in the volume balance; clean drill, add several new charts for Deep; run-throughs; fold tarp and pack trailer for trip to Indianapolis

SATURDAY

Arrive at Watterson between 6:45-7:00 am

Leave Watterson for Pike HS, Indianapolis, IN at 7:15 am. I would suggest getting some rest on the way to Indy. Except the drivers, of course...

Arrive at Pike HS approximately 10:30-10:45, go to Level Seven's assigned space, drop all bags and other show items EXCEPT YOUR WINTER JACKET AND GLOVES/HATS, keep those on; when ready, report to trailer to unload ASAP.

When trailer is unloaded, go back to the setup area and drop off your coats/hats/gloves, get into temporary uniforms, and return to staging area (where drums were unloaded to). Captains make sure the drums are in an orderly fashion and inventory that ALL items are inside the building. Also, Captains begin leading our stretch routine.

Approxmate Warmup time is 12:00 noon

Level Seven Percussion performance is at 12:30 pm

After performance, move drums to hallway ready to load into the trailer, GET COATS ON, then load trailer. Since this is a Prelims performance, there is no awards ceremony at the end of the day. Once the trailer is loaded, we will stay to watch a handful of other groups, and then will leave Pike HS at approximately 2:30 pm (after Scholastic World Class) to check in to the hotel at 3:00 pm (information below).

3:00 - 4:15 pm - Relax time at hotel. Catch a nap, drum (on drum pads), watch TV, catch up on schoolwork, or just hang out for some down time. Be ready to leave the hotel for early dinner at approximately 4:15 pm

4:15 pm - Leave for dinner in Greenville, IN (just outside of Indy - site of our practice gym)

5:00 pm - Dinner in Greenville

6:00 - 10:00 pm - Drill practice, add several more new drill charts; more sound adjustments; run-throughs, fold tarp, reload trailer. Drivers/chaperones are welcome to attend this practice.

10:45 pm - Arrive back at hotel

11:00 pm - Meeting for all members, staff, and chaperones in hotel lobby; grab a snack, do schoolwork, visit for a few minutes

11:45 pm - All members to their assigned rooms

12:00 midnight - Room check and lights out (we have another early start on Sunday)

SUNDAY

7:00 am - Wake-up; at this time grab a complimentary breakfast in the hotel lobby, as well as get ready to leave for Finals; pack up and load vehicles for trip to Pike HS

8:45 am - Check out of hotel; leave for Pike

9:15 am - Arrive at Pike HS - do same unloading routine as Prelims - WEAR WINTER GEAR

10:55-11:15 am - Approximate warmup times (depends on Prelims placement)

Level Seven Percussion Finals performance will be either 11:25, 11:35, or 11:45 am, depending on Prelims placement

Once performance is complete, set drums in hallway and get coats to load trailer for return trip. Once loaded, return to gym for completion of performance. Finals are over at 1:51 pm. Awards are immediately afterwards.

2:30 pm - Load vehicles for return trip to Columbus.

6:00 pm - Approximate arrival time at Watterson HS. We will make the calls home once we hit the London area (approximately 30 minutes away).
